Half of our family hails from Louisiana, and every year at this time we remember to tip our hats to our Cajun cousins and have at least one or two dishes that would be oh so appropriate for a Fat Tuesday celebration.
Here is a delicious and easy spread using smoked oysters that would go nicely on a Mardi Gras party buffet table alongside a basket of crackers or toast rounds. It takes all of five minutes to make, and if you put a dish of this in front of a group of teenage boys, it takes about five minutes to eat too. Laissez le bon temps rouler!
Smoked Oyster Spread
1 8-ounce package cream cheese
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 can smoked oysters, finely chopped
1 tablespoon grated onion
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon Louisiana hot sauce (or more to taste)
¼ teaspoon salt
I made fish paste last week and it was awesome so I can’t wait to try your oyster spread!
Oh wow. This sounds like a fabulous recipe for adults. I’m thinking a few capers might work well with this too?
Lynn, I visited your blog Savory Tart to see your fish paste recipe and it does sound delicious. Thank you!
I always love capers–sounds good to me.
